Challenges
The Automill supported by a 7MW induction motor rotates the Automill which processes 30,000 tons per day of run of mine ore. It operates 24/7, apart from short periods when the mine in not operational. The annual electricity cost to operate the Automill is US$8M p.a.
Goals & Objectives
The primary objective was to develop a process redesign of the control of the Automill with an Acoustic Feedback Control for Mill Feed conveyor to improve energy efficiency by 12.5%.
